2022 Schedule Overview

Bloomington Boogies presented free performances, ticketed concerts, and free educational events on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Aug. 13 through 15, 2022, listed below by day. Activities and performances were supported by the Bloomington Arts Commission, the Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association, the Brown County Community Foundation, Inc. and the Indiana Arts Commission, which receives support from the State of Indiana and the National Endowment for the Arts.

For information about educational events - free master classes, music workshops, and concerts in schools - click on Education. Please note:

  • Concerts on Monday, Aug. 15, were for students, faculty, staff, and invited guests.
  • Music workshops after school were open to the public, with preregistration required for participants and observers.

Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022

9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Bloomington Boogies at Bloomington Community Farmers' Market (Free), 401 N. Morton St., Bloomington, IN 47404:

11 a.m. - Bloomington Boogies at WFHB's "Saturday's Child" at the Monroe County History Center (Free), 202 E. 6th St., Bloomington, IN 47408: "Saturday's Child," WFHB's free monthly live music showcase, limited to 75 people; free bagels and coffee! In-person on WFHB 91.3 FM and online at https://wfhb.org/ :

2 p.m. - Bloomington Boogies Master Class: Stride Piano, presented by Judy Carmichael, Monroe County History Center (Free), 202 E. 6th St., Bloomington, IN 47408: One of the foremost interpreters of stride and swing piano, Ms. Carmichael's free master class was for intermediate and advanced pianists.  Observers welcome. The class focused on the history of jazz piano -- including America’s first popular music, ragtime -- which evolved into Harlem stride, and how both influenced jazz. Limited to 20 pianists and 60 observers. Preregistration was required.

4 p.m. - Bloomington Boogies Master Class: How We Approach Jazz Piano, presented by Paolo Alderighi & Stephanie Trick, Unitarian Universalist Church (Free), 2120 N. Fee Lane, Bloomington, IN 47408: Pioneers in using four-hands for jazz piano, the Duo has earned widespread success arranging stride, ragtime, and boogie woogie classics, as well as tunes the Swing Era and Golden Age of Tin Pan Alley. Stephanie and Paolo discussed various ways to approach jazz piano. With their experience and expertise in different styles (Stephanie being more focused on stride and boogie woogie, Paolo on swing and modern jazz) they demonstrated ways of playing standards in the piano solo setting and shared their knowledge in creating arrangements for four-hands, something they have been doing together for more than 10 years. Observers welcomed, as Stephanie and Paolo played solo and duets to illustrate different approaches to jazz. Preregistration was required.

7:30 p.m. - Bloomington Boogies at Cardinal Spirits (Free, 21+ only), 922 S. Morton St., Bloomington, IN 47403: Bloomington's first Craft Distillery - with tasting room, cocktail bar, and restaurant.

Hosted by Liz Pennock & Dr. Blues!

Che Bello, located in the heart of downtown Bloomington, hosted this festival favorite event, open to the public and featuring informal performances by festival artists with no cover charge.  Che Bello's offers Italian American classics and a vibrant menu of rich, delicious Italian fare everyone will enjoy right here in Southern Indiana.
